White Oak lumber is a hard, heavy wood with heartwood which is relatively high in resistance to decay. White Oak lumber is one of the best all-purpose and most used of all American woods. Many different types of grain and figure are obtained from the log by varying the angle of sawing for lumber or slicing for veneer.
White Oak lumber has a light to medium tan heartwood with yellowish white sapwood. The wood rays are longer and much more prominent than any other wood in the world. This creates a highly desirable figured grain when quarter sawn and also makes a very strong wood.
The pores of White Oak wood are such that it makes it impervious to liquid and an excellent choice for high quality " tight cooperage " such as water, wine and whiskey barrels.
The rift grain effect that is growing in popularity today is obtained by sawing or slicing the log at an angle which emphasizes the ring growth with scarcely any visible radial grain.
White Oak ranks high among the leading cabinet woods in this country. and is widely used in furniture, flooring, moldings and timbers. 12/4, 16/4.
